Foods from Russia: Seledka, (Smoked Herring)

~Seledka, (Smoked Herring)~

Between the 'Foods from Russia', Seledka or 'Smoked Herring', it's one of the favorite foods to be consumed with beer. ...



Traditionally consumed on a newspaper, broken by hands and shared.

Seledka is like the Bloater, another type of smoked Herring. The fish are smoked whole, with the innards intact.

Other types of smoked herrings are the Kipper, a whole herring that has been split from tail to head, gutted, salted or pickled, and cold smoked, and the Buckling, a form of hot-smoked herring similar to the Kipper and the Bloater, in this case the head and guts are removed but the roes remain.
